Can’t solve exponential equation

    I’m not able to get the value of the parameter lambda in the equation below:

    This is from Q7(ii), Sep2010.

    I get only 0.01 whereas the value should be 0.011164.

    Has anyone been able to get 0.011164 for lambda, by solving the above equation?

    It says "show that" so you could simply substitute \(\lambda = 0.011164\) into the equation to show it holds true.

    However, if it says show it's correct to 5 SF or 6 DP then you really should rearrange the equation to equal zero and substitute 0.0111635 and 0.111645 and show that there is a sign change.

    Yes, the question does ask to “show that”.

    However, I was wondering at that time that how would I solve that equation for lambda, if I had to.

    But it’s all good.
