Am doing CT8 as my first attempt and am finding it quite challenging, Can anyone tell me how to go about it. What is the best reference book one can use?

Um... just wondering, why don't you start with an easier CT eg. CT1? What's your background when it comes to finance/stats/maths etc?

    Reading for CT8

    Esther,

The profession give a list of further reading suggestions for each of the CT subjects. The list for CT8 may be found here:

    http://www.actuaries.org.uk/students/syllabus/further_reading/ct_subjects?SQ_DESIGN_NAME=printer_friendly#8

At the top of that webpage it says: "The ActEd Course material will be the main source of tuition for students. However, if students require clarification on certain points or would wish to read further then they may find it useful to consult the texts suggested, to obtain a different viewpoint."

So I don't think you should feel obliged to look at all these books - perhaps other students out there can let you know what they think about using these other books?

With many of these books, it is easier to pass the CT exam first and then read the book for a more specialised discussion of the topic.

However, some of the earlier chapters of Modern portfolio theory and investment analysis can be helpful for a step-by-step introduction to portfolio theory.
