The waiting process is relatively short for non computer marked exams. I mark A levels and other quals and you need time for: Receiving and scanning scripts practice marking - examiners become familiar with the mark scheme whilst senior examiners tweak the mark scheme based on actual responses Standardisation process - examiners qualify to show that they can mark to the required standard Marking process - length depends on number of examiners and number of scripts to mark. This is where time savings can be made by recruiting more examiners but that depends on people being willing to mark Awarding meetings - senior examiners meet to decide on the pass mark Awarding process - based on pass mark, papers graded, technology has already improved the speed of this process
AI has not developed sufficiently to make the judgements required. Computer based testing is still very limited.
