Effective Exam Skills Courses

The half-day exam skills tutorial concentrates on maximising your chances of passing the exam, not through knowledge of the technical material, but instead through making life easy for both yourself in answering the questions, and the examiner in marking your paper. This leaves you time to concentrate on the all-important task of thinking in the exam.

There are certain techniques that students can use to do this, and these are covered in the tutorial. The main topics covered are

  • good time management and how to approach the exam
  • analysing questions
  • idea generation
  • planning and writing out your answer

The tutorial gives you a process to fall back on so that you can minimise panic and maximise marks. It draws heavily on what examiners like to see in students’ scripts, and ways in which a borderline FA can be turned into a pass. The tutorial focuses on techniques suitable for students sitting CA1 or an ST Subject for the first time, in particular looking at how to tackle essay-style questions.

Half day morning sessions typically run from 9.30am to 1.00pm, whilst half day afternoon sessions run from 1.45pm to 5.15pm. In Dublin the tutorials usually start and finish 30 minutes earlier. Exact timings for all courses will be given with your joining instructions.
Please read these joining instructions carefully.
