Online Classroom - in Subjects CT1 - CT8 and CA1

The Online Classroom is an exciting new approach to studying for the actuarial exams. It acts as either a valuable add-on to a face-to-face tutorial or a great alternative to a tutorial, particularly if you're not based in the UK or near a tutorial venue.

Please read our introduction to the Online Classroom and its key benefits.

At the heart of the Online Classroom in each subject is a comprehensive, easily-searched collection of over 100 tutorial units. These are a mix of:

  • teaching units, helping you to really get to grips with the course material, and
  • guided questions, enabling you to learn the most efficient ways to answer questions and avoid common exam pitfalls.

What else is in the Online Classroom?

Alongside all these tutorial units, the Online Classroom also provides:

  • Dedicated discussion forums - talk to other students studying the subject at the same time and get answers to your queries
  • Access to an ActEd tutor - an ActEd tutor is the assigned Online Classroom tutor, providing guidance and motivation through regular emails and responding rapidly to queries in the discussion forums
  • Guidance - advice on how and when to use the Online Classroom and how to integrate it with your other study resources to best suit you and maximise your chances of exam success
  • Tutorial handout and full solutions - just like a face-to-face tutorial.
Online classroom is currently available in Subjects CT1 - CT8 and CA1. Watch out for a new Online Classroom in other subjects being released later this year.

Students attending a Regular or Block Tutorial in the same session may purchase the Online Classroom at a significantly reduced cost.

Registration will automatically expire after the April 2013 (or September/October 2013) exam. If you wish to re use the Online Classroom in the same subject for the next sitting you will need to re-register and an additional fee will be payable.

Using ActEd’s Online Classrooms on an iPad

ActEd’s Online Classrooms do not function correctly when viewed on an iPad via a normal web-browser such as Safari. However, recently we have found that our Online Classrooms can be accessed using the Puffin Web Browser, which is available from the App store.

We have set up a post on our discussion forum to enable students to post feedback (positive or negative) about their experience of using Puffin to view Online Classrooms.

Please note:

  • We suggest trying the free version of Puffin before buying the full version. This will enable you to make sure that it works well for you.
  • We have no control over the development of Puffin and there appear to be few alternatives to it for viewing Online Classrooms on an iPad so we may well be unable to fix any problems, should any arise in the future.
