Submitting scripts
For students living within
the UK and Ireland, assignments and
mock exams can be submitted for marking by post,
by fax or by email.
Of these methods it is actually best to post
scripts if postal delays are not a problem.
This is because it is easier for markers to
comment on presentational aspects of your work
if they are marking an original rather than
a faxed/scanned copy.
However you choose to submit
your assignments, please read the instructions
on the assignment coversheet before completing
your assignment. It is your responsibility
to ensure that your script is sent in good time
to reach us.
There are special arrangements
for the submission of assignments for students
living outside the UK and Ireland.
If posting:
Please ensure that you
use the correct postage when you send in your
script, as otherwise your script may be delayed
significantly, possibly missing the final deadline.
Please note, that within the UK the postage
price you pay is calculated by the size and
weight of the item, so if you send your
scripts in an A4 envelope you will need to use
a large letter postage stamp when sending.
We strongly recommend that
you photocopy your script before you post it.
If faxing:
Scripts faxed to the number
below will arrive at ActEd as an attachment
to an email. We will print out and mark the
script before posting it back to you in the
normal way.
If you wish to use this method,
you must follow the following guidelines,
or your script will not be accepted:
This line is reserved for
faxed scripts. Please do not send any other
faxes to this number.
- Fax your script (including
the cover sheet) to 0844 583 4501.
- Fax the assignment cover sheet as the first sheet.
- Write in black ink using a medium-sized nib because we will be
unable to mark illegible scripts.
- Leave at least 2cm margin on all borders.
- Number all the pages of your script and write the total number of
pages which your script contains on the assignment
cover sheet.
- Write on one side of the paper only (so that you can fax your
script in the correct order in one go).
- Use the "fine resolution"
option on your fax machine if there is one.
- Check that all pages have been sent successfully.
In addition:
- We recommend that you stay
by the fax machine until the fax has been
sent so that you can deal with any problems
immediately. (If an error occurs, please re-fax
the whole script, please indicate clearly
on the cover sheet that you are doing so).
- An email will be sent by
the end of the next working day to confirm
that we have processed your script. Please
do not phone to check progress before then.
If the fax was sent without error then it's
very unlikely that there will be a problem.
- Deadline dates still apply
but we will accept scripts faxed to us on
the deadline date. Late scripts will not be
marked.
- We will continue to accept
posted scripts, but you should receive your
script back from us more promptly if it is
faxed or emailed.
We will not accept:
- scripts submitted to other ActEd fax numbers - please use
0844 583 4501.
- more than one fax per script (eg. please do not fax the same script more
than once unless there is an error).
- more than one script per
fax (eg. please do not fax two scripts at
the same time, send each script separately).
- jumbled scripts - please fax the pages in the correct order.
If emailing:
To email your script please send it to
ActEdMarking@bpp.com.
We will print out and mark the script before posting
it back to you in the normal way.
If you wish to use this method,
you must follow the following guidelines,
or your script will not be accepted:
- Make sure the assignment
cover sheet is the first page of the scanned
document.
- Write in black ink
using a medium-sized nib because we will be
unable to mark illegible scripts.
- Leave at least 1cm margin on all borders.
- Number all the pages of your script and write the total number of
pages which your script contains on the assignment
cover sheet.
- Deadline dates still apply
but we will accept scripts emailed to us on
the deadline date. Late scripts will not be
marked.
- Set your scanning resolution to either 150 dots per inch (dpi) or 200 (dpi).
Use the lower resolution of 150 dpi if the resultant file exceeds 4MB.
- For image type, select black and white.
- For image format, use the
compressed option - such as .tiff file (there
is usually a '.tiff compressed' option, or
something similarly named, when you try to
save the file) or PDF.
- File format: multi-page
- we cannot accept individual files for each
page. All scanned assignments must be submitted
in a single file.
- Ensure your file size does
not exceed 4 MB.
- Check that your scanned
assignment includes all pages and is of a
sufficiently legible quality before emailing
to ActEd.
- Please title the email
in the form of CT1 X4 No. 12345 with the appropriate
assignment and ActEd student number entered.
Please do not...
- Re-send or post the same
script unless you believe that the first attempt
has wholly or partially failed. If you do
have to re-send, please do indicate clearly
on the cover sheet that you are doing so.
Your script will be passed
to the next available marker and will be returned
to you by first class post. We encourage markers
to return scripts quickly, but you should be aware
that scripts submitted around the time of the
final deadlines may have a significantly slower
turnaround time than usual.

living outside the UK and Ireland.
