Marking for Overseas Students
Important information for overseas students
If you are based outside
the UK and Ireland you can submit assignments
and mocks for marking by either fax,
email or post.
Of these methods it is actually best to post
scripts if postal delays are not a problem.
This is because it is easier for markers to
comment on presentational aspects of your work
if they are marking an original rather than
a faxed/scanned copy.
However you choose to submit
your assignments, please read the instructions
on the assignment coversheet before completing
your assignment. It is your responsibility
to ensure that your script is sent in good time
to reach us.
The cost
of marking submitted by fax or email is
the same as for postal submission. If you would
like to buy marking for your assignments
or mock exams,
then please order through your normal contact
(ActEd Australasia
in Australia and New Zealand or
ActEd's UK office for other overseas students).
If faxing:
Scripts faxed to the number
below will arrive at ActEd as an attachment
to an email. We will print out and mark the
script before sending it back to you - see
Return of scripts below.
If you wish to use this method,
you must follow the following guidelines,
or your script will not be accepted:
Marking fax
number (excluding South Africa): +
44 844 583 4501
Marking fax
number for South
African student only: 086
687 3600
This line is reserved for faxed scripts. Please do not send any other
faxes to this number.
- Write your full postal address in the box provided.
- Write your full return email address clearly
at the top of your cover sheet.
- Fax the assignment cover sheet as the first sheet.
- Write in black ink using a medium-sized nib
because we will be unable to mark illegible
scripts.
- Leave at least 2cm margin on all borders.
- Number all the pages of your script and write the
total number of pages which your script contains
on the assignment cover sheet.
- Write on one side of the paper only (so that
you can fax your script in the correct order
in one go).
- Use the "fine resolution" option on
your fax machine if there is one.
- Check that all pages have been sent successfully.
In addition:
- We recommend that you stay
by the fax machine until the fax has been
sent so that you can deal with any problems
immediately. (If an error occurs, please re-fax
the whole script, please indicate clearly
on the cover sheet that you are doing so).
- An email will be sent by
the end of the next working day to confirm
that we have processed your script. Please
do not phone to check progress before then.
If the fax was sent without error then it's
very unlikely that there will be a problem.
- Deadline dates still apply
but we will accept scripts faxed to us on
the deadline date. Late scripts will not be
marked.
- We will continue to accept
posted scripts, but you should receive your
script back from us more promptly if it is
faxed or emailed.
We will not accept:
- more than one fax per script
(eg. please do not fax the same script more
than once unless there is an error).
- more than one script per
fax (eg. please do not fax two scripts at
the same time, send each script separately).
- jumbled scripts - please
fax the pages in the correct order.
If emailing:
To email your script please send it to
ActEdMarking@bpp.com.
We will print
out and mark the script before sending it back
to you - see Return of scripts below.
If you wish to use this method,
you must follow the following guidelines,
or your script will not be accepted:
- Make sure the assignment
cover sheet is the first page of the scanned
document.
- Write your email address
clearly at the top of your cover sheet, if
you wish to receive an acknowledgement of
receipt.
- Write in black ink
using a medium-sized nib because we will be
unable to mark illegible scripts.
- Leave at least 1cm margin on all borders.
- Number all the pages of
your script and write the total number of
pages which your script contains on the assignment
cover sheet.
- Deadline dates still apply
but we will accept scripts emailed to us on
the deadline date. Late scripts will not be
marked.
- Set your scanning resolution
to either 150 dots per inch (dpi) or 200 (dpi).
Use the lower resolution of 150 dpi if the
resultant file exceeds 4MB.
- For image type, select black and white.
- For image format, use the
compressed option - such as .tiff file (there
is usually a '.tiff compressed' option, or
something similarly named, when you try to
save the file) or PDF.
- File format: multi-page
- we cannot accept individual files for each
page. All scanned assignments must be submitted
in a single file.
- Ensure your file size does
not exceed 4 MB.
- Check that your scanned
assignment includes all pages and is of a
sufficiently legible quality before emailing
to ActEd.
- Please title the email
in the form of CT1 X4 No. 12345 with the appropriate
assignment and ActEd student number entered.
Please do not...
- Re-send or post the same
script unless you believe that the first attempt
has wholly or partially failed. If you do
have to re-send, please do indicate clearly
on the cover sheet that you are doing so.
If posting:
Please ensure that you use
the correct postage when you send in your script,
as otherwise your script may be delayed significantly,
possibly missing the final deadline. If posting
your script, we strongly recommend that you
photocopy your script before you post it.
Return of scripts
We will return your marked
script to you as a scanned document by email
in the first instance. We then also post the
hard copy to you to the address that you have
completed on your assignment front sheet. Please
note that if the address section is not filled
in fully and correctly on your front sheet,
your hard copy may not reach you.
From past experience the quality
of the scanned document is very good. However,
if you experience any difficulties in reading
your script please contact us by email
or by telephone +44 1235 550005.
If you have chosen not to
receive the solutions in advance then the solutions
will be posted to you when we have marked your
script.
