Stats Refresher Online Tutorial

This is an online tutorial that covers the statistical material in Subject CT3 that is needed by students for their study of other CT subjects (in particular for CT4 and CT6). It will prove most useful to students that have been awarded an exemption in CT3, but that would like to refresh their knowledge of the key concepts in order to improve their chances of success in other CT subject exams.

The tutorial runs for about 1.5 hours and students can skip between sections to select the areas that are of most use to them. The main areas covered in the tutorial are:

• conditional probability
• mean, variance, skewness
• compound distributions
• method of moments estimation
• generating functions
• chi squared testing
• maximum likelihood estimation
• lognormal distributions

The tutorial does not require any software to be resident on your PC, although some students may have to update their PCs with regard to Java Virtual Machine (JVM). This can be updated simply and at no cost on the internet, and the link for doing this is given in the FAQ document associated with the tutorials.
